Traffic busier than ever

“Vehicles travelled a total of 323.7 billion miles on UK roads last year; cars and taxis accounted for 252.6 billion of those miles” say Autocar.

The car publication reports that traffic levels in the UK have been increasing since 2013, growing by 2% in 2016 compared to 2015, with motorways having the biggest increase.

Some might immediately argue that these statistics paint a negative picture. With issues such as pollution and global warming being highlighted more than ever, surely a dramatic increase in vehicle traffic can only be a bad thing? Mark Shankland, managing director of AA Tyres disagrees. He thinks that these statistics instead show how reliant we have become on our cars, and how important they now are to us here in the UK.
